Do not be overawed when others grow rich, when the splendor of their houses increases; for they will take nothing with them when they die, their splendor will not descend with them. Psalm 49:16-17
It is easy yo get distracted with material possessions and to lose sight of the true wealth we can achieve in Christ. Wealth is not a bad thing; worrying, focusing and obsessing on it it the problem!
As a homeschooling family we sacrifice much. One of those is having a two full income family. Because of this money is something that doesn’t flow in abundance and can easily become and object of worry and obsession. It is also easy to slip into becoming envious of the “wealth” others appear to have. We must always remember that we can take nothing with us when we die. We also must focus on the true wealth we find in Christ. We must strive to store up treasures in heaven by doing God’s will for our lives. We also have the unique oppurtunity to invest in the lives of our children as we teach them about true happiness and fulfilment through Christs love and our love for others. This is a wealth that can not come from material possessions or money.
Lord, help me keep my focus on you and your treasure. Help me not to worry and become pre-occupied with “things” of the world but loving service for you and others. Help me to instill correct values in my children and teach them that it is not about what you have but about who you are; your true character.
