#Proverbs – Chapter 18: What is your fortified tower?

Scripture:

Proverbs 18:10-11

The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it a wall too high to scale.

Observation:

The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and they are saved. The worldly rely on their material gain to be their savior.

Application:

God is our refuge, even his name is powerful. The righteous can run to him and he will keep us safe. This doesn’t mean that we will never face trials, but he will always stand with us and help us through them. We will still face the consequences of living in a sinful world, but with the peace of knowing that it is temporary and he is with us. We can call out his name in time of trouble and he is there to surround us with his love and mercy.

Why wait until times of trouble, call his name and ask him to be with you always. He wants constant fellowship with us. If we are constantly relying on him as our strength we will be less likely to slip back into worldly ways and a sense of false security from things around us. These things offer an imaginary fortress where we think things can’t and won’t affect us. Only God and his power can offer such protection and friendship. When we rely on others and material things we set ourselves up for disappointment and failure.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for being my fortress and friend. Help me to fully rely on you and your strength and not seek out a worldly false sense of security.

A special prayer and request:

Lord be with my dear friend who is hurting and struggling with this sudden illness. Protect her and be her fortress. Be with the medical staff working with her. Give them guidance. Heal her with your loving powerful hands. Use her testimony to reach her family and others. Let them know that you are there with her and we give you the glory.
