I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
God wants more out of His relationship with us. He doesn’t want us to just serve him out of fear. Instead he wants us to call him a friend and serve out of loyalty and love. Jesus came to earth and dwelt among us so that we can have that true personal connection and relationship with God. He made known what God wanted from us through Jesus, His Son.
Think of so of your close friends. How do you foster and grow that relationship? Is it a relationship of love or of fear? Well, the answers are easy. You spend time with them, communicate with them, listen to them, and love them. That’s exactly how God wants you to treat your relationship with him! In order for any relationship to develop you must invest time. “The time you spend isn’t regulated, but it is regular.” Spend time in prayer; worship him, read his word! That is how to grow a great relationship with your Father and Creator! He is longing for a connection with you that is more than surface deep. He wants a true intimate heart connection with each one of us.
Pick a cozy spot and make it your regular place to meet with God.
Thank you Lord, for your love and longing for me. I run to you and accept your invitation of friendship. I serve you out of love, not of fear. Help me to meet with you daily as I read your word, worship you, and have conversation through prayer.
