#Homeschool Weekly Wrap-Up: Let It Snow?

This week in our homeschool…

Well, we were still kind of on break but I had planned to throw in a short unit study. We decided to go with “The Snowy Day” by Ezra Jack Keats. Jolanthe from www.homeschoolcrations.comhad some great lap book materials to assist us on this journey. The funny part is that this is the view from my front porch….

Well I guess thinking that it would be cold and snowy in January was a little off! It is Kansas ya know! Yesterday my girls were riding their bikes and playing outside in shorts! (I did make them wear a long sleeve shirt out of principle because the calendar says January)

The girls love the unit study anyway! Here is a snapshot of the unit:

What is working…

For Christmas my mom gave the two older girls Leapfrog Tags. They are these little pens that you can load books onto from the computer, then they can read the books and play games using the pens. They love them! I was afraid that they would take the easy way out and just select the read page mode but both are trying to do it themselves and when they get stuck on a word it helps them. This allows them to read even if I can’t help. They have chosen them many times even during free play time instead of TV or other toys! Wow what a great product to foster the joy of reading in little ones!

What I am reading…

I started a new study this week from the book “Daily Steps for God Chicks” by Holly Wagner. I am really enjoying it. See other posts on my blog for more details.

Other happenings at the Hoggatt home….

We have had a great week! I finished taking down Christmas decorations last night, so we have our house back! Today I need to finish cleaning and rearranging things to get the rest back in order.  We have had a pretty relaxed week other than that.
