Are you pruning yourself to receive His blessings?

Scripture:
Psalm 119:17-18

Be good to your servant, that I may live and obey your word. Open my eyes to see
the wonderful truths in your instructions.

Observation:

Open my eyes to your living word, your wonderful truths and instructions. Help me follow them and convict me of your laws. Show me that I my serve and follow you with all of me!

Application:

Have you ever had that pit in your stomach feeling when you have disobeyed or done something (knowingly or unknowingly) against God’s will? Have you later been conceited by the Holy Spirit and sought genuine forgiveness? Well I will go out on a limb and say that we all have!

These verses are talking about that. Asking God to reveal sin in our lives that need fixed before we are ready to receive his whole blessing. (Notice “we are ready to receive” He is already giving it to us we are just failing on the receiving end.) God wants so much more from us and for us. It’s like a parent who wants to give everything to their children but their children are to selfish to look beyond themselves and take what they are being given.

Meister Eckhart wrote: “There are plenty to follow our Lord half-way, but not the other half. They will give up possessions, friends and honors, but it touches them too closely to disown themselves.”

Is that describing you (me)? Are you giving until it gets hard, and then stopping? Or are you giving beyond when it gets hard and into the hurt? Not just of your time, money, etc… but of yourself. Are you taking the pruning to a level where you can cut deep and foster new growth toward the Creator? Are you asking Him to reveal sin in your life that you can get it out and receive Him more and more?

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for your word and how it speaks to my heart. Thank you for telling me the things that are not easy to hear or do. Help me to re-focus on you and what you trying to give me. Save me from loving the world and the false truths in it. Help me to turn my whole heart to you and receive your blessings. Amen
