Things I Ponder: Get Over Ourselves!

Scripture:
Proverbs 31:5-6
lest they drink and forget what has been decreed, and deprive all the oppressed of their rights. Let beer be for those who are perishing, wine for those who are in anguish!

Observation:

Don’t cloud you judgement and forget what is right/wrong. That is when you hurt the people who depend on you.

Application:
What are the things that you use to cloud your judgment? These scriptures talked specifically about alcohol. But we use many things as “pain killers”. Some do use drugs or alcohol, but others of us choose more socially acceptable forms of repressing feelings including food, sarcasm, laziness, etc… The list could go on and on! All of these things cause us to focus on ourselves and distract us from God’s laws or how we treat other.
Well it is “Wake-up Call” time! We need to “Get Over Ourselves” and throw away our pity parties! We need to get rid of all the excuses that we use and look outside ourselves. We need to truly focus on God and let him be our strength and refuge and stop running to things of this world to dull the pain of Life! Start focusing on the needs of others. No matter how bad we think our day/life is there is always someone who is in more need of help then ourselves. Focus on God’s laws and His love for people. Spread some joy and you will find it! Give, and it will be given; take, and it will be taken.
We get so focused on our wants and needs that we forget those around us. We then look up and we are all alone. It is a downward spiral that we need to stop!

Prayer:
Thank you Lord for your word! Help me to focus on your will, laws and commands for my life. Help pull me out of the “me, me, me” spiral and focus on others. Thank you for giving me strength and for being my refuge. Help me to focus on You! Amen
