By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.
It takes wisdom to build a house, and understanding to set it on a firm foundation; It takes knowledge to furnish its rooms with fine furniture and beautiful draperies.
What kind of house are you building and what foundation are you laying for it?
I immediately think of the wise and foolish builders in Luke 6, you know like the children’s song. A wise
man WOMAN builds his her house upon a rock, The rain came down and the flood came up and the house on the rock stood firm. A foolish man Woman builds his her house upon the sand, The rain came down and the flood came up and the house on the sand went SPLAT!
Now we can all laugh at the reality of choosing a good location to build a real house and know how much attention to detail you and the contractors would need to put in, right? But how about ourselves as a house? (The Bible does say we are God’s temple.) Do we put the same kind of effort into making sure that we root ourselves in a good foundation.
Today’s scripture says that it takes wisdom, understanding & knowledge to know how to properly build a house and set it on it’s foundation. We must always seek God first for that information. But, sometimes we require a little help from “contractors” to point us in the right direction. Some of these “contractors” may include your pastor, friends, family, media, etc…
Are you carefully choosing those contractors? Maybe you need to get referrals first. The one thing that immediately pops into my mind is the common tv “churches”. The “health and wealth” preachers that don’t always preach biblical philosophies. Make sure that whatever you choose to allow to influence you and effect the firmness of your foundation is tested through the “blue print” of the Bible and the ultimate “architect” God!
On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand! How about you?
Lord, thank you for your love and guidance. Thank you for not only being with us now but also in tomorrow and whatever lay ahead for us. Thank you that nothing can separate us from your abonding and sufficient love. Help us to rely on you for our wisdom, understanding and knowledge even when we are being tempted to take the easy way out. Help us to set our feet and plant our foundation on your principles and leading. Amen
