Homeschool Weekly Wrap-Up: There is creepy crawlies among us!

Link-up with other HS families at the HSMJ

In Our Homeschool This Week…
Our lessons this week almost fell right into our hands. literally! While watering our herb garden I noticed some of the ends looked as if they had been sniped off and I knew it wasn’t me. After further investigation we captured the culprit and are now holding him hostage as our science investigation!

We think it is a caterpillar to a Black Swallowtail Butterfly!

After researching the care of caterpillars on the Internet we built it a nice home. Yesterday it entered it’s next phase!

I had some fun activities and books that I had already gathered because we were going to try to do this unit along with our botany unit next year. But, when opportunity knocks I guess you answer!

There are some great resources out there including Montessori Print Shop (where these printables are from) and Deb@ Living Montessori Now. ย She also has a Pintrest board completely dedicated to cool butterfly life cycle ideas! We are going to continue using these for the next week at least!

Also Happening This Week…
I have been working on VBS which starts next week! I am teaching 5th & 6th graders! I’m not quite use to working with the older ages but this will be good practice for when I take over the Bible quizzing program in the fall. I will update you on everything next week!
Things I’m Writing About…
I usually don’t “advertise” my other blog writing here but I think that some of you might find these useful. I wrote a 4 part series this week about getting ready for back to school. We actually call in NOT Back to School! It is full of tips, printables, and fun ideas to get you and your children excited and ready for the upcoming year.ย
Here are the links to the four entries:
I hope you all had a good week and I look forward to reading your weekly wrap-up posts! Thanks for stopping by and have a blessed week!

  1. Thank you for stopping by my blog. I love when learning experiences just fall into your lap like that. Good luck as you continue your homeschool journey.

  2. That is so neat! I am sure you guys are excited to see the change! Thanks for stopping by and for also posting about your other blog. I’ll be sure to be stopping by there this weekend. ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a great weekend!!!

  3. What a fun study! I always wanted to do a butterfly/chrysalis study but in 13 years we never have. Now I’m afraid my boys might be too old to be interested. We raised tadpoles this spring and they lost interest about halfway through. ๐Ÿ™ It looks really neat though!

Did you know hosts the Not Back to School Blog Hop? It starts in August. A couple of your posts might fit the weekly themes, at least! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for stopping by to say hi! ๐Ÿ™‚
