Fix Our Eyes On The Unseen!

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Observation: (From the Message translation)

So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.

Sometimes life is hard! We feel like around every corner there is something waiting and learking to take a swing at us or jab us when we are down. This is especially true when we are trying to do the “right” things. But God is reassuring us that if we are following his guidance our reward will be great. Our hard times will not even be able to stand against the great things that he has in store for us in his kingdom.  We can only see the here and now but God’s reward will last forever.

Whether you face physical ailments, mental, or anything else God is always at work and rest assured in his promises. He will renew us day by day.  His glory outweighs any situation we find ourselves in. He is more than faithful to his promises. We must fix our eyes not on what we see but on Him! These things are temporary but God’s love lasts forever!

This week we have been focusing on our beauty or appearance. We may be tempted to give into societies pressures of more skin or “bling”, but stay true to what God’s values are. Again I’m not saying that it isn’t ok to be fashionable but also remember to be true to you. Remember that beauty is more than skin deep and that what we act like is more important than what we look like.

We need to stop comparing ourselves to the standards other put out but by the standards God has for us. He is our creator and he doesn’t make mistakes. He hand crafted us and placed us in our mothers wombs. We are fearfully and wonderfully made in his image. He will  rescue and sustain us. We are the apple of His eye and that is all that should matter!

Lord, help me to care about how I appear to you and not to others. Help me to remain in you. Help me to be true to my values and beliefs and not give into outside pressure. Thank you for your promise of better things to come. Thank you for giving me a new portion of your grace every day. I rest in you and your unfailing love and protection. Amen
