Are You Waiting?

Scripture Reading – Luke 2:21-35
S.O.A.P. Reading – Luke 2:30-32

Scripture: Luke 2:30-32 (MSG Translation)
With my own eyes I’ve seen your salvation; it’s now out in the open for everyone to see: A God-revealing light to the non-Jewish nations, and of glory for your people Israel.

Simeon had waited his entire adult life to meet the Messiah. He had devoted himself to prayer and to servant-hood at the temple. God had made the promise to him that he would not die until he had seen the Messiah. When the time came and the Messiah was revealed to him he worshiped and adored the Christ. He was overcome with complete satisfaction. God had kept his promise.

Simeon spent everyday waiting… waiting on God’s timing. Do you think that he ever had moments of doubt? Do you think that he ever though that he had missed the sign or even misunderstood God? Even though he may have faltered in belief every once in a while or questioned God’s promise, he was still patient and obedient to his calling. He was still fully committed to his calling.

We all go through times of waiting. Some of us indifferent areas of our lives and in different ways. I have had many times in my life where I feel that God is calling me to do something but then the opportunity never presents itself. Currently I am waiting on God’s timing again. I know that he is willing and able to heal me from my afflictions and that he will use that for His glory. But for now I wait….faithfully and obediently. I do have times of fear, impatience and doubt. But I wait…Knowing that I serve a God who keeps his promises!

I think of times past when I was going through all the motions of being a Christian but was still waiting (on my own doing) to have that personal “meet Him” experience. I have friends and family that are still in that waiting pattern. I pray for them that they would surrender and dive in with both feet, fully committed.

I remember that the Jewish people are still waiting for His arrival and that they have missed it.  I am thankful for organizations such as “Jews For Jesus” that have answered the call to bring the message of the Messiah back to them. I pray that their hearts would be opened to hearing and believing.

Lord, I pray that I will stay committed to the calling you have given me. Even in the times that it seems distant or unbelievable, Help me to remember that you are a faithful and loving God. I praise you for the past times that you have proved your promises. I pray that my ears will stay in-tuned to your voice. Help those who are in need of you to be open to the message. Help those who are witnessing in your name to the unbelievers. Thank you for fulling your promise not only to Simeon but to the world. Thank you for Jesus! Amen
