Scripture Reading: Luke 1:67-80
S.O.A.P. Reading: Luke 1:74-79
Scripture: (MSG Translation)
So we can worship him without a care in the world, made holy before him as long as we live. And you, my child, “Prophet of the Highest,” will go ahead of the Master to prepare his ways, Present the offer of salvation to his people, the forgiveness of their sins. Through the heartfelt mercies of our God, God’s Sunrise will break in upon us, Shining on those in the darkness, those sitting in the shadow of death, Then showing us the way, one foot at a time, down the path of peace.
The birth of John the Baptist was an amazing miracle. God made the impossible, possible. He then continued to use John to prepare the way for his coming in the form of Jesus. John willing excepted this roll and began preaching and teaching to the people about what was ahead. He was leading the people one foot at a time down the path of peace. He was telling everyone….”Be Prepared, Change Is Coming!”
When I read the passage for today I immediately began thinking of a road construction crew and road signs. (not sure why!) The purpose of a road crew is to prepare the way so that we can drive safely to our destination without having fear that there is a hazard in the way. Road signs serve as a warning to us that change is coming and we need to pay attention.
John’s purpose was to prepare the way by ministering to the people, making sure that their hearts were ready to meet Jesus. He also was a warning sign that BIG change was coming their way.
We too hold those same positions. Just as Christ came over 2000 years ago, He is coming again. We, His people, are modern day John the Baptist’s. We are called to prepare, not just our hearts and minds, but those around us for His return. We are called to be Christ’s road signs. Our lives, actions, and words should be shouting “Be Prepared, Change Is Coming!!!!”
Lord, help me to willingly submit to you and your purpose for my life. Let me be and instrument of your peace. Let my life shine as a road sign directing people to you. Help me prepare my life for your coming and to minister to those in need. Help me point only to you. Amen
