This Little Light Of Mine, Let It Shine!

Daily Reading: Like 1:1-25
S.O.A.P Scripture: Luke 1:1-4

Scripture: Luke 1:1-4 (MSG translation)

So many others have tried their hand at putting together a story of the wonderful harvest of Scripture and history that took place among us, using reports handed down by the original eyewitnesses who served this Word with their very lives. Since I have investigated all the reports in close detail, starting from the story’s beginning, I decided to write it all out for you, most honorable Theophilus, so you can know beyond the shadow of a doubt the reliability of what you were taught.

Observation:

Luke had heard the wonderful testimonies of what God had done in the lives of the faithful and how their response and God’s blessing effected all of creation.  How they opened up their lives to become vessels for God to set His plan of salvation in motion. Since Luke knew the story and the power of what had happened he wanted to share the truth with those that came across his path, Theophilus in particular. He wanted him to know without a shadow of a doubt that Gods grace is faithful and His love is everlasting.

Application:

Do we share our testimony or the wonderful news of Christ with such fervor? Do we have friends, relatives or even acquaintances that need to hear about Gods love and forgiveness, but we have failed to share? Has God done something awesome in your life and you have kept it to yourself?

Our main function as Christians is to share the “story of the wonderful harvest of Scripture and history that took place among us”.

Now I’m not saying that you should pack your soap box whenever leaving the house and look for every opportunity possible to bring it out and climb up on it. But we are suppose to share Christs love with those that He puts in our paths. Show them love, understanding, patience and gentleness. Be like Jesus! Treat them like Jesus would! Even if they are not to our “standard of perfection”! (sarcasm highly implied!!!) Jesus didn’t just hang out with His buddies, He went into the unthinkable places to share His love with those hurting and most at need. But we often fail to show that love to those within our circle, most particular our families.

Going a step further, we fail to share the miraculous things that He is doing within us and in our lives. I remember as a child going to my church on Sunday mornings, there was a little old lady who would always stand up at every opportunity given (or sometimes just a pause in the preachers sermon, haha).  She always had a white hankie and would start waving it as she spoke. She would share with great emotion what God had done for her. She wanted everyone in that sanctuary to know that they serve a God who is still living and active. One that still works in the lives of His people even in the small things. I yearned for that kind of enthusiasm, and still do! There are times when I feel the spirit leading me to testify publicly of Gods greatness. But most of the time I let my own self doubt and fear creep in and sit quietly idle. That is the opposite of what Luke is writing for us today. He is telling us to shout it from the roof tops what God has and is doing! Don’t let Satan put your light out! Share it let it spread!!!

Remember the song that we all sand as children? It goes like this…

This little light of mine
I’m going to let it shine
This little light of mine
I’m going to let it shine
Let it shine
Let it shine

Hide it under a bush, Yell no
I’m going to let it shine
Hide it under a bush, Yell no
I’m going to let it shine
Let it shine
Let it shine

Don’t let Satan blow it out

I’m going to let it shine
Don’t let Satan blow it out
I’m going to let it shine
Let it shine
Let it shine

Prayer:
Lord, thank you for your word and it’s power to comfort and convict. Help us to let you light and love shine in and through our lives. Help us to share it with those around us without fear or doubt. Thank you for those who have come before us that have passed your message of salvation and love to us. Amen
