Scripture Reading – Luke 5:27-32
S.O.A.P. Reading – Luke 5:31-32
Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
All I can do is praise him for this statement! I am so thankful that Jesus meets us where we are. Then he begins to help us transform into being more like Him. He came to save everyone, but those who don’t think they need him will fall away. Those who are sick and admit it will receive him.
Think about it for a second…
If you are not ill or feeling sick or in need, well then you probably wouldn’t go to the doctor. But when there is a problem you go and get it checked out. Then you follow up with regular medical treatment.
Christianity works the same way. Those who don’t see the need for Jesus in their lives rarely come to church or seek Jesus. But when something goes wrong in their lives they begin the search to find the Great Physician. Then they become connected to the fountain of life that flows from Jesus. Most of the time they follow a “treatment plan” and remain connected to Him and seek ways to get closer to him.
Yet again Jesus reminds us that it is only when we are broken and empty of our own ideas and motives that we are useful to him. He wants us to empty ourselves of ourselves and surrender to his healing/changing power! He is our Great Physician and wants to help us, but we have to get out of his way when he does.
I am so glad that he comes to us in our weakest moments and that we don’t have to be perfect for him to meet us. He meets us wherever/however we are!
Lord, thank you!!! I praise you that you came to me even though I was a sinner and will always be a sinner. I praise you for your mercy and forgiveness. I praise you for your redemption and healing. I praise you! Help me to see others as you do, a creation of Gods, and look past the sins. Help me to meet them where they are like you did me. Help me to point them to you!
