Scripture Reading – Luke 4:14-19
S.O.A.P. Reading – Luke 4:18-19
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Observation: (Msg Translation)
Jesus time in the dessert, though trying and tough, served it’s purpose as a “spiritual retreat”. After that time of renewal Jesus returned “Powerful In Spirit” with a clear understanding of God’s plan for Him. He had a fresh anointing and renewed spirit to carry our the tasks that were being asked of Him.
God’s Spirit is on me; he’s chosen me to preach the Message of good news to the poor, Sent me to announce pardon to prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind,
To set the burdened and battered free,
To announce, “This is God’s year to act!”
We too need time for a “Spiritual Retreat”. We need time to renew our heart and souls. A time to reconnect with our maker. Many of us have daily quiet times, but sometimes fail to have an uninterrupted “retreat” between you and God.
I challenge you to start making time with him to just listen to his still small voice. Once a week lock yourself away for 1 hr and just bask in His glory. I usually try to sneak off for a bath and play praise music and just dwell on his greatness. You will be amazed at the difference it has on your heart, soul and attitude!
Jesus dwelt in the dessert for 40 days. We are quickly approaching the lent session where we too are called to a time of prayer and fasting to prepare ourselves the fully experience the Easter message. What is something that you can take away from your routine and replace with prayer? What “sacrifice” will you be making for your dessert time? I hope that you will truly consider this “dessert retreat” in the modern world. It will not be without temptations. But, I promise that you will return “Powerful In Spirit” and with a clearer understanding of God’s will in your life.
Lord, thank you for your sacrifices for us. Thank you for your example of becoming close to God through those sacrifices. Help us to also see the things that we need to weed out of our lives so that we can come to you with a clear and clean spirit. Help us to take time to find renewal in you. Give us a powerful spirit and clear direction for your kingdom work! Amen
