Scripture Reading – Luke 6:1-11
S.O.A.P. Reading – Luke 6:9
Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”
The Sabbath was made for man not man for the Sabbath. We should honor God on his holy day and follow his command to rest and keep it holy. But not at the expense of someone else. When we begin to become caught up in the ritual vs. the reason is where we get into trouble.
The idea behind the Sabbath is so that we can have a day of rest. A day where we can devote ourselves to him without the worry of physical demands. A time where we can worship him and enjoy the company of fellow believers. But all to often we can turn this day into a day of stress and havoc by jam packing it with so many activities and catch up responsibilities.
Remember that it is the Lords day and to set aside the time to connect with him and to rest your weary body and rejuvenate your soul.
Lord, thank you for building in a day of rest. You knew that it would be a day that we needed to reconnect with you and revive our spirits. Help us to remember that it belongs to you and to give you honor on that day. Help us to follow your laws not that of man. Help us to see past the rituals and into the spirit and reason for the Sabbath. Help us to understand and follow the true reason for the day. Amen
