We are Blessed!

Scripture Reading – Luke 6:12-26
S.O.A.P. Reading – Luke 6:20-23

“Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who hunger now,
for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who weep now,
for you will laugh.
Blessed are you when people hate you,
when they exclude you and insult you
and reject your name as evil,
because of the Son of Man.
“Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven.
For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets.

We are blessed when we look outside of ourselves and our sufferings. We are blessed when we stake more on our eternal life than our present situations. When we suffer in His name and not in our own we are blessed. When we put others and the service of His kingdom ahead of our own selfish desires we are blessed. We can rejoice in our hardships because we know it is temporary.

It is so easy for us to get caught up in the here and now lifestyle of the world. We often began to forget that this is our temporary home. We start thinking that what we have makes who we are. But when we stop and remember that our eternal dwelling is intended to be with God in his kingdom the circumstantial world fades away and we can focus on His desires for us.

Now I know that God wants us to be happy and not suffer. But when we give and sacrifice for Him that is when we are truly blessed and are following his will for our lives.  Having money or food or happiness is not wrong. It becomes wrong when that is all that matters to us and we fail to see the hurting around us and do something about it. When we start to put our needs before God or others is when sin creeps in. I God has blessed you with health or wealth or an abundance then it is for the purpose of his kingdom not as a reward for something earthly that you have done. It is when we let pride and selfishness creep in that he is displeased.

Lord, help us to not focus on our temporary sufferings or inconveniences, but to focus on your kingdom, our eternal dwelling. Help us to honor you in our conduct and our example to others of your love. Help us to look past the earthly things and to seek your will and desires for our lives. Amen
