As adults we sometimes take for granted the importance of pretend play. We get caught up in our busy schedules and tasks that need to be completed. We forget that the world is an adventure just waiting to be taken. We become BORING!!!!
But to a child, the world around them is new and exciting. It is filled with wonder and adventure. All you have to do is use your imagination and PRETEND!!!!
Young children learn by pretending. A child playing with a kitchen set or having a tea party is learning through pretend. They are developing important social and emotional skills that are needed for later in life.
Through pretend play they are learning to share and take turns, develop moral rights and wrongs, and have empathy for another. They are learning what it is like to walk in another’s shoes.
They also develop important language and communication skills through pretend play. New vocabulary words and meanings can be taught through play and pretend. Communication with others around them or even talking to the pretend items around them help language development. They learn to reenact stories and make up new plots. Critical thinking skills also come into use during play. They can face real life situations through pretending and learn to work through problems on their own in a safe manner.
One thing that I really like about Funshine Express preschool program is the emphasis that they put on pretend play. Many of the crafts are designed to foster imaginary play. Just this week in our Baby Animals theme they have created three fun pretend play crafts!
Funshine’s Teacher Guide provides lots of active play ideas and games that help the kids use their imaginations. Many of them don’t require extra supplies which makes it nice.
Poems, songs, and rhymes also help them pretend play throughout the day!
I really can’t brag enough on the fun and ease of the Funshine Express curriculum!
Now is the perfect time to start!!!! June-August begins the Summer Review. They also offer a summer school kids program called Jitterbugs. Find out more about that here.
The new curriculum theme beginning in September. I can’t wait to get it started!!!!!
